Whether they are used for quite literally playing house, as a fort or a den or just an extension of the family home for children to use as an extra playroom, the playhouse has a definite place in the hearts of British families.

Typically they are made from brightly coloured plastic, or treated wood panels which can be left the natural colour or painted. They range from simple one room playhouses right to two storey mansions for small people to play in.

The first port of call on the hunt for a playhouse has to be Playhouses World! They bill themselves as the UK's favourite playhouse store and regularly have sales with some really great discounts. The smallest playhouses that they stock are just 3x4 foot and prices start at £120 for the Cosy Cottage. The largest that they stock is a massive 19x16 foot playhouse raised on stilts with ladders and walkways, and which retails at £3,894.

If your budget doesn't quite stretch to such a major spend on a playhouse for your child, you could do worse than look at eBay. There are often second hand playhouses in great condition for sale, going for a song, or you could even buy a new playhouse at a fraction of the cost of going to an actual shop.
